In Jayne Mansfield's centerfold (February 1955) she epitomizes the in 
your face attitude that made her famous. A certain blonde with her own 
reality TV show is a poor imitation.

Jayne comes out of the Burlesque tradition; a tradition based on 
illusion and puffery. I had always thought that Jayne was a 
hugely-endowed woman. She's not. Maybe if she had been born in the 
present day she would be, but her sexuality came more from within than 
from a bag of saline solution.

I love the expression Jayne is giving us here. Her make-up is perfect, 
with just enough of the rich, red lipstick to invite us in. She manages 
to both tease and reveal with her coat. Her legs just never seem to 
stop. I like her splayed toes on the rung of the stool. I think it works 
well, giving a sense that she's about to move off the stool and into our 
arms.

The fifties were the height of the aluminum Christmas tree and the 
background in this picture has always made me think along those lines. 
As good as the mix is between the coat, the blinds and the floor, I'm 
sure it wasn't by accident.
