In Eve Meyer's centerfold (June 1955) she's waiting for us in front of 
the fire, much as any dutiful 1950's wife should.

A couple of things stand out in this centerfold. First is how little new 
ground it breaks. Every element: the fire, the peignoir, the alcohol, 
the slippers, the make-up, the jewelry, the rugs are all standard 1950's 
pin-up issue. It's almost like Russ opened his "At Home Pin-Up Kit" and 
used everything in the box.

Everything.

Still he manages to do so with the eye of an artist. As hackneyed and 
cornball as these elements can be, they're arranged here in a top-drawer 
composition.

One thing that is not hackneyed is the open, unabashed tone of Eve's 
pose. Sure, the naughty bits are covered, but it's clear from the pose 
and Eve's expression that won't be the case for long. Also exceptional 
is seeing a Playmate in a real setting. This is only the third 
centerfold set outside a photographer's studio. A foundation stone for 
the Girl Next Door has been laid.

And then there's Eve. Russ knew how to make his wife look fantastic. Her 
alluring eyes and outstanding figure are both highlighted, drawing us in.
