In Marian Stafford's centerfold (March 1956) she's letting us know in no 
uncertain terms that we will not be watching the tube tonight.

The way sex could be talked about in polite company has changed over the 
years. I'm sure there were women who were this forceful in getting what 
they wanted sexually, but the common wisdom had it that these women 
would not make good mates. They were the ones you kept in an apartment. 
Marian seems to be in too domestic a situation here to be a kept woman. 
I could be reading way too much into it, but this seems to me to be more 
the house of a young married couple than a pied a terre in the city.

It's a good pose for Marian. I guess the best way to put it is that her 
pose is more sexual than maternal. The possible hint of pubic hair adds 
to this.

The overall mood of the picture is a happy one - a good thing. Both the 
scan and my copy of the foldout show that white was perhaps not the best 
color scheme. It was difficult to work with then and it shows today.
