Those silly co-eds! This centerfold has always struck me as more clever than erotic, and that's not all bad. Playboy has always had a notion of how explicit it's wanted to be, and in 1956 that often meant no nipples. Seems silly now, and it may have seemed silly then, but it's clear from the photos they ran that's what they wanted. Having a falling feather be a pastie was a clever, but not too erotic choice. (Yeah, I know about the joke definition of kinky) Now if Alice were having this pillow fight with another Playmate . . . Much more erotic was the camera's angle and Alice's slight twist. Feather or no, we get to see a spectacular figure. The tri-color scheme of brown, blue and Caucasian skin was a good choice, and a grouping that's even found in this century. Topping the erotic is Alice's teasing, playful smile. Her next move may be to whack us with the pillow, or it may be something far less aggressive. We won't know for another couple of seconds.
