In Laura Young's centerfold (October 1962) she's standing in a darkened 
bedroom. The look on her face leaves no doubt what's on her mind.

This centerfold is one of several from the early 1960's in which Playboy 
experimented with an almost black background while having the model 
brightly lit. Some dramatic effects can be obtained that way, but it 
seems to me that this doesn't work in a centerfold. A pin-up needs to 
show off the model and her form, not just the form of the model.

Nevertheless I've rated this centerfold fairly high in the "Pin-up" 
category because of Laura's wonderful pose and expression. It's a modest 
pose but at the same time we are very much aware that one slip and she 
will be completely naked. It's hard to go wrong with a sense of 
anticipation in a pin-up.

The only thing I can quibble about is the strain and tenseness showing 
in her calves. Neither one of these things is bad, particularly, except 
when they conflict with the rest of the mood. It's like Laura is 
carrying a lot of weight in front of her. You could wonder if she's 
pregnant. .
