From 40 years on, this centerfold seems almost pointless. Pin-up models, even the non-nudes in Playboy's latest competitors, don't hide behind sheer fabric. The ones that do tend to play up a figure rather than downplay it like we see here. The hair looks like you could bounce a quarter off it, and you don't see that very often, if at all. Women themselves haven't changed much since the last ice age. When we look at June's radiant face emerging out of the solid black background the point of this pin-up becomes apparent. It's a very, very lovely face, with a smile that could pass as completely innocent among the ignorant, but carries with it a healthy does of sexual invitation and not a small amount of heat. It's a great look, just not killer. On the more technical side it was a good choice to focus so completely on June's face. You can make out her figure, if you like, but the real rewards come with eye contact. The blue ornament provides an accent that exceeds its weight, keeping the picture from becoming too somber.
