To: pml1@yahoogroups.com Subject: [PML1] CC: Jennifer Jackson From: Mark Tomlonson Date: Fri, 06 Feb 2004 10:03:49 -0500 Jennifer Jackson's centerfold (March 1965) is all about red. I think it's a successful monochromatic essay on the joy of a beautiful woman. As shown in lesser centerfolds and pin-ups, that seersucker stripe in the wallpaper behind Jennifer can be tricky to handle. Most examples I've seen from a present-day perspective seem dated, but here it still carries with it a fair amount of freshness. Part of it is the way the stripes blend together in our eyes, but I think the biggest part is the way the reds warm up Jennifer's lovely skin. She seems to glow in this light. It was a good thing to have that red restated in the matting of the pictures and in the flowers that are just out of focus in the lower right. The slight shift from seersucker to polka dot in Jennifer's dress was a subtle and clever bit. I wonder if this was a happy accident or the result of a great deal of work? Her expression is first-rate. Small down notes are an average (although extremely pleasing) figure and the slight hint of a moustache in some prints. (I can see it on one of mine, not on the other.)
