In Connie Kreski's centerfold (January 1968) our New Year's celebration 
shows every indication that it will not be ending, at least for a little 
while.

There are blondes and then there are blondes. There are California 
Blondes, Nordic Blondes, and Dutch Blondes. Then there are Midwestern 
Blondes. It's not hair color, but style. I could walk out of my office 
onto the WMU campus and easily find young women who could pass as 
Connie's not-so-distant cousins. For me, Connie is the Girl Next Door, 
not only in spirit but almost in fact, as her birthplace is less than 
fifty miles from my own.

In her centerfold she does an excellent job of communicating an intimate 
and private feeling. This celebration will not involve six more of our 
nearest and dearest friends; it's just going to be the two of us, and 
it's going to happen pretty soon.

The gift Connie is holding is an excellent highlight in the center of 
the photo, drawing our eyes not only into the photo but to the bed, 
pillows and champagne bottle that define the implied situation. This 
highlight, as important as it is, is only a minor point compared to 
Connie's lovely expression.
