In Lorna Hopper's centerfold (April 1969) we've stopped on our hike 
through the woods, pausing in the middle of a stream to reflect on the 
beauties to be found in nature.

Good, solid artistic work really makes this centerfold. In the top half 
we get an open, airy feeling with the light background shapes out of 
focus. This makes for an excellent showcase for Lorna. In the bottom 
half more is going on with darker tones and more distinct forms. Lorna's 
legs and the fallen branch make for a pleasing blend of shapes. The 
green highlights of her bikini and the wildflowers also work together 
quite well. Why else would she need the bikini? It's not like she's 
going to be doing a lot of swimming in that stream.

Lorna 's pose and expression are very pleasing as well, but the 
alternate photo is better on these counts. The implied situation is more 
important in the centerfold. A hike in the woods usually means some kind 
of solitude. Communing with nature is usually more of an aphrodisiac 
than not, at least until the bugs arrive. The nice thing about a pin-up 
is we can enjoy the fantasy without the insects.
