In Janice Pennington's centerfold (May 1971) we've caught her in a game 
of dress-up, a brief serious interruption in what has been an exuberant 
celebration.

In Janice's autobiography, she tells about feeling that she was ugly, a 
feeling not countered by her father's comments. Janice is not the usual 
Playmate, with long angular features and a figure that is more typical 
than remarkable, but she is far, far away from ugly.

This foldout represents what the shopping mall boudoir photographer 
should be doing, making a typical body look great. In Janice's case, the 
photographer's task was made easier by her sultry but accessible looks. 
The draping fabrics and scarves add color and pleasing shapes, teasing 
us with hints of the lovely skin underneath. The selection of lace adds 
femininity without fussiness.

On the technical side, I like the placement of the hall tree. It 
balances the photo, not only from left to right, but also from front to 
back giving an unusual sense of depth to this centerfold.

 From the look on Janice's face, she still had doubts about her fitness 
as a Playmate. It's too bad, as the rest of the photo shows she should 
not have been worried.
