In P.J. Lansing's centerfold (February 1972) we see one of those moments 
that happen spontaneously, but can stay in our mind's eye for years and 
years.

I have a memory (probably mostly accurate) of the photographer saying 
this was a difficult centerfold to produce. Looking through the other 
published photos there really aren't many shots of P.J., if any, that 
rise to the level of this one. The other pictures show an attractive 
woman with a moderately attractive body and a moderate amount of camera 
presence.

The foldout makes P.J. look great. Her muscular ribs are highlighted, 
and the pose does marvelous things for the lines of her breasts. It's a 
simple pose, surprising in the way it also plays up the curves in her 
legs. It would have been so easy to have this pose and setting strike 
false notes, looking forced and posed, but here they both seem 
completely and utterly natural.

Her face is P.J.'s most attractive feature, and the lighting and 
composition draw us in.

The monochromatic background was a good choice, with the pink warming up 
the proceedings. P.J.'s blonde hair and her tan work together to give 
just the right amount of contrast.
