In Marlene Morrow's centerfold (April 1974) she's in her bidet. If we 
keep going along this path she's just going to have to clean up all over 
again. If I were actually in this setting with Marlene, it's a fair bet 
I would enjoy the process of getting dirty with her very much. The 
failing of the centerfold is that I see little of that transferred to 
the printed page.

Marlene looks O.K. for what we see, and more importantly, looks like she 
would be an involved, active partner. While the fantasy of Playboy is 
that it's finding women like Marlene for me in a surrogate/fantasy kind 
of way, the reality is that they are finding women who look good naked 
in a centerfold. In a word, Marlene is too plain to make a centerfold work.

Perhaps that's the explanation for all the business that surrounds her. 
All the frou-frou hangs together quite well, but it has the same effect 
as re-arranging the deck chairs on the Titanic: a lot of work to no avail.

The centerfold's not a disaster. It has the looks of a project that 
started with promise, but should have been abandoned.
