Subject: [PML1] CC: Marlene Janssen

Marlene Janssen's centerfold (November 1982) is a blend of two 
centerfolds that went before: Janice Pennington's and Cyndi Woods'. Like 
Cyndi, Marlene is standing in the half-open French doors of the Playboy 
Mansion in Holmby Hills. Like Janice, she is posed with her right arm 
up, left arm on her hips and legs shoulder-width apart.

The blend is very successful. In particular I like the way Marlene's 
left breast is highlighted. There is just a hint of bondage here, but 
it's more a look at why some people consider a bound breast attractive 
rather than the fetish itself. It's difficult to write about in terms I 
feel are appropriate for this List, but I also like the way her pubic 
area has been handled. Posing her on the balls of her feet with the legs 
spread apart works not only in the artistic sense, giving a sense of 
stability, but also provides a feeling of sexuality, openness and 
availability without looking smutty. Smutty is O.K. in several settings, 
but not in a centerfold.

Colors and textures work well, as does the costuming, but Marlene's 
expression is a bit short. I'm not sure just how comfortable she is to 
be posing.
