In Barbara Edwards' centerfold (September 1983) the Big Game is over, 
and we are about to begin our own tailgate party just outside Edwards Quad.

This centerfold is all about texture and light, and it nails it on both 
counts. The lighting perfectly captures the unique feel of a late-fall 
Midwest overcast (AKA "Michigan Sunshine") . My guess is the neo-gothic 
building is actually the Playboy Mansion in sunny California, which 
makes the lighting even more amazing.

The textures range from hard granite to cold metal to knit fabric to 
soft hair to fur to cashmere to skin, and all of them seem so real you 
can almost feel them under your hand. It's not easy by any stretch to 
photographically capture such a wide range in one shot.

This is all just a setting for Barbara, of course. This pose allows us 
to imagine ourselves relating to Barbara both on the strictly physical 
level as well as a more romantic, personal level. The pose flatters her 
as well.

The only thing not to like is the position of her legs. They seem a bit 
awkward, with the right knee in particular a bit out of place.
