To: pml1@yahoogroups.com From: Mark Tomlonson Date: Wed, 04 Jun 2003 08:54:35 -0400 Subject: [PML1] CC: Tanya Beyer In Tanya Beyer's centerfold (February 1992) she's taken off almost all of her clothes and is seated on a bar, regarding us with what seems to be a great deal of suspicion. Ambiguity in a pin-up is not necessarily a bad thing. Many times a "Will I or won't I?" look on the model has added immense interest and turned routine photos into classics. Inherent in those ambiguous looks though is a sense that even though my imaginary encounter with the model may be very limited, I still get the message that it's O.K. that I'm there. That's the biggest thing missing from this centerfold. I can't really tell if Tanya even knows I'm there. Her expression is a one-on-one with the photographer; her concerns entirely center on dealing with him. Tanya is a lovely woman, with a sophisticated, non-Hollywood beauty. The muted red plaid is her color. The bright bar rail divides the photo almost in half. The major interest is definitely in the upper half, and Tanya's black boots and the darker lighting add a needed sense of stability. All this is for naught, as the most important centerfold element, positive communication with the viewer, is almost absent.
