In Barbara Moore's centerfold (December 1992) we're taken back to the 
late 1930's and the malt shop on the corner. I think it's no coincidence 
that Hef was a young adolescent at that time.

Hef has made no secret of his admiration for the work of the great 
Esquire pin-up artists, and this centerfold is a pleasant evocation. The 
teen-age hangout, the chrome and red vinyl, and most of all, the 
drop-dead stunning blonde create the look. Barbara was perfectly cast 
for this centerfold. Her body, of course, can fuel any young adolescent 
heterosexual male's fantasies, but she also has a look and an expression 
that's the equivalent of a double entende. One glance and it looks like 
she's just smiling. Take a second or (for the slightly more dense) a 
third look, and the sexual heat and come-on is unmistakable.

Barbara's been framed just slightly to our right, and being just off 
kilter draws our eyes even more. It's surprising how much weight is 
added by the 6 ounce Coke bottle next to Barbara. Surprising, too, is a 
feel more warm than cold.

This photo is the upside of Hef's personal touch. We're all too familiar 
with the downside.
