In Neferteri Shepherd's centerfold (July 2000) she's left the bikini 
behind and has stepped out on the deck to join us.

The nineties may go down as a time when form mattered more than 
substance, when a perfect fake was more valued than imperfect reality. 
Neferteri's obviously on a set, with a pre-fab backdrop standing in for 
the sky. The lighting on her is from the lower right; the lighting on 
the clouds is from the upper right. With fakery this obvious you have to 
wonder if maybe it's being done for effect. I'll give Playboy's art 
staff the benefit of the doubt on this one, and say they're after the 
effect.

One thing that isn't fake is Neferteri's smile. It's a great pin-up 
expression, and recalls the more innocent look of the pin-ups of the 
forties and fifties. She's been posed to bring out her long, slender 
frame. The twisting of her upper body and the wrapping of her legs 
around each other is very effective, and is extended by the towel. 
Having the jewelry around her waist is very complimentary. Having tried 
posing a model in this costume I can attest it can be difficult to get 
right.
