In Nicole Whitehead's centerfold (May 2004) she's about to board a
plane. We may be taking off shortly, but the plane won't.

The first thing I notice about this centerfold is its fresh, light and
just plain fun mood. Some of this is from the light blue and white
dominating the background. Nearly all of the rest comes from Nicole's
smile. In the sixties and early seventies letting the model light up
the centerfold was more common than it is now. Dark and sultry is
great, and so are several other moods. This centerfold is a reminder
that sex can be as much about fun as it is about passion.

The centerfold is framed so that Nicole makes a nice swoop from upper
right to lower left. I don't sense D-Day style planning this time
around, just a good eye for cropping.

As bright and light and reminiscent of the sixties this centerfold is,
there is one aspect that falls short. For whatever reason, this
centerfold does not have the snap of years past. Too much digital
processing? Too small a film format? Whatever it is, Nicole washes
into the paper. Playmates used to leap off the page.
