The power and the appeal behind this centerfold is Pilar's smile. Better than any yellow button in terms of being able to encourage a good day, it's cheery, bright and artless. A lot of the centerfolds of the 60's were like this. I could see more of them in this century. This time around the bent knees do what they are supposed to do? accent the curves. There's no hint of an imminent trip to the potty. They also provide a fig leaf, which again is O.K. Pilar doesn't need to put her knees behind her ears to draw my attention. Still, I wish there were more drama here. Nice is good, and I don't think we make enough of it. But nice is in danger of running short in this centerfold. I think we need more from the setting or from the pose or both. Some of the cleverness and wit that was threatening to make a comeback would be welcome. If we can't have the sharpness of old, why can't we still have the creative touches? There is not a single aspect where the centerfold beats this photo. It's a much better expression, pose and setting. I would have no trouble rating the alternate 4.0. http://cyber.playboy.com/members/playmates/files/2004/08/centerfold.html http://cyber.playboy.com/members/playmates/files/2004/08/04-lrg.html Mark Tomlonson
