There are mistakes in this photo of Herculean proportions. The way Joanne's face is lit casts a deep, full shadow of her nose right across her lovely red lips, making it look at first glance like she has a harelip. I realize that some of the tools photographers have at their disposal have changed over the years, but even in the early fifties there were fill lights. This is Portraiture 101 stuff. If that weren't bad enough, her face is out of focus. No wonder the photographer is anonymous! The rest of the centerfold is pretty good. The zebra skin looks a little silly now, Vegan concerns notwithstanding: it's a style issue. The black and white pattern against Joanne's tan body is an excellent choice, as is the bold, direct diagonal composition. I'm not as big a fan of Joanne's pose, although it's O.K. The problem is the big crease at her waistline. If she were straighter she would look a lot thinner. Joanne's not a bad model, as shown by the portfolio shots.
