In Terry Ryan's centerfold (December 1954) she's stretching on the 
ottoman. It could be after a nap; it could be before a nap. Feel free to 
interpret "nap" in a different way if you wish.

With Terry, Playboy hinted for the first time that the Playmates had a 
life outside the confines of the centerfold. True, all we find out about 
her is that she is a model and her name is Terry. Nevertheless the 
readers loved it. Placing a Playmate in the context of a "real" life, 
although maybe not her own, is one of the things that has set Playboy 
apart from its competition. Placing her in a "real" situation and 
looking straight at the viewer, other Centerfold hallmarks, would come 
later. Here Terry seems lost in her own thoughts and unaware of us.

At first glance this photo seems little different from the stock photos 
that made up the early centerfolds. A closer examination reveals a very 
subtle color blend from the background through the peignoir to Terry's 
skin. The small portfolio is enough to reveal that some effort was made 
to find the pose and the colors that would show Terry's figure at its best.
