In her second centerfold (December 1955) Janet Pilgrim has just
unwrapped our Christmas present of a white sable stole. It looks as if
she is the next present to be unwrapped.

If I have my PEl history correct, this photograph was shot after a
great deal of positive reaction to the July centerfold had arrived in
Chicago. The pose selected for Janet once again is one that shows off
her cleavage and full breasts. I've often wondered if indeed we can
see clear 'til Tuesday, or if that's just shadow.

The pin-up and artistic elements are just as strong here as in July,
but the look on Janet's face while very nice, doesn't have the
directness of the first centerfold. Here we have just a single
compositional line running from upper left to lower right. The shot,
with its traditional Christmas setting and Janet's more distant
expression, owes more to the "calendar" tradition that what was to
become the centerfold style.

Playboy continues to play with the definition of a centerfold. The
male presence is still there, but instead of a silhouette, it's a coat
folded on the chair in the hall. The male presence would soon
disappear altogether.
