This centerfold falls back on an old, old pin-up theme: a nude woman admiring herself in a mirror. Mark Gabor in his book illustrates a woodcut dating from the fifteenth century on this very theme. (It was a soap advertisement). We've seen it in centerfolds before, and this is one of its less successful iterations. The problem is the reflected image is in focus, but the direct image is not. That's O.K. some of the time, but here the direct image is neither nude nor in focus. This is not a good thing. In a cynical view, it looks like the art director was so involved in arranging the closet door and mirror into a pleasing design (which it is) that he forgot to showcase the subject. A less cynical view would have the art director deciding that the large out of focus image in the main part of the photograph was O.K. The image in the mirror is a pretty fair pin-up. Sally's over the shoulder glance is the best thing about it.
