In Jean Jani's centerfold (July 1957) she's stretched out on a sofa, 
suggesting that the mood music we've picked out has been successful in 
its intended effect.

It's hard for me to separate my feelings for this centerfold, as a child 
of the '60's looking back at it, from how it stands or falls on its own 
merits. It's not an aggressively poor pin-up by any measure, but there 
are a couple of things that give me pause.

I don't like the way Jean is posed in relation to the camera's angle. It 
seems clumsy, awkward, and a bit too conscious of what could and 
couldn't be shown. Other centerfolds this modest are handled with more 
grace. Maybe I'm getting hung-up over what I see as "old-woman" panties. 
They may be practical, but clothing in a pin-up shouldn't have 
practicality as its main recommendation. I think I would have moved 
Jeans left leg so the knee was just below her right knee.

The rest of the centerfold ranges from good to average in my eye. I like 
Jean's teasing expression. The round forms in the lower right blend 
nicely with the rectangular brick and sofa. Her nipples deserve better 
though.
