In Delores Wells' centerfold (June 1960) she's been putting on the 
suntan lotion at the beach. Now she's asking us to get to those 
hard-to-reach spots. Or something.

I see this centerfold as marking the start of the transition from the 
design of the fifties to the design of the sixties. There were several 
fifties designs after this, but here we see what was to come.

This new style comes across most in the pose and the selection of 
Delores as the model. She's a trim, limber athletic woman. Her breasts, 
while possibly not fake, are definitely preternaturally round. This 
rounded breast and slim stomach was the start of a trend that can be 
traced directly to the current crop of Playmates.

There's also something in Delores' attitude. There is a directness there 
that has a different undercurrent than what came before. I read into 
Delores' expression a sense of fun rather than illicitness in her sexual 
invitation. Maybe I just need to get out more.

Irrespective of how it fits in the great grand scheme of life, this is a 
pretty good centerfold, with an attractive woman that reminds me just 
how much fun being heterosexual can be.
