We know it's her bed because no heterosexual male would decorate his own room in these colors. Red pom-poms on a canopy bed seem an unlikely male choice. Men rarely go for this pale, wan, washed out look. Almost forty years after this centerfold was shot, the colors seem more washed up than anything else. My quarrel with this centerfold is that it seems to have no balls. Things that aren't male can have balls. To me "balls" means strength, power and confidence. A woman that can hold her family together after her man takes the money and leaves her for a bimbo has balls. The man doesn't. This centerfold doesn't. The white and pink scheme could work, but it's not strong enough in this case. It's not white and pink because it's filled with color or life, the white and pink are there because the life and color has been drained. Terri's shown probably at her worst, hunched over and timid. Her face looks more bored than anything else. Putting her hair up like this was a not a good choice. The crux was the effect of the red values. I've only seen two prints of this shot, and both have a very pastel shade of red. Dan has seen one with a very strong red. I think with a strong red the centerfold would take on a much different character than what I described. Just to be clear, the centerfold is the only picture I've seen of Terri that I don't like.
