In Melba Ogle's (any other candidates for "Playmate's oddest name"?) centerfold (July 1964) she's playing Laurey Williams to our Curly McClain, even if the setting is Melba's Wyoming instead of Oklahoma. The problem with this centerfold is one that was imposed on Playboy and every other Men's magazine in 1964 - the fig leaf. Sometimes Playboy handled it very, very well - so well that it became an integral part of the picture and unless you think about it, you don't notice that it's there. And then there's this one. It's a shame, really that the fig leaf is so obvious, because everything else here is at least one cut above Playboy's average. Melba isn't smiling so much as she's saying "cheese", but it's O.K. What isn't covered by her jeans looks very good. Even though she's not in the fighting trim of a professional model of the present day, she looks very nice. Her figure does well in this pose, and almost succeeds in making up for the one fault. The open window is handled well, drawing our attention to Melba without dominating the affair. Melba's pose has a slight twist to it, doing good things for Melba and the composition.
