If we actually did fly a kite off this high balcony, we might soon be in a very short free fall to the ground below. Anne makes it easy to imagine being lost in an entirely different kind of free fall. There's quite an interplay of angles and lines in this photograph. Each has a relationship to another, and they all hang together in a tight compositional form. Everything except Anne, that is. It's a great way to draw attention to her. The pose is wonderful. She seems so touchable, so available. That button down shirt is arranged to draw us into the photograph and towards Anne. Her pants are open just enough to complete the lines of her figure. A cute smile, but it looks like she's been holding it for a long time. The pinks and yellows around her work very well, adding to the springtime setting. January 1971 is held as the debut of pubic hair in a Playboy centerfold, but this foldout and several others from the time show that Playboy was pushing the line several years earlier.
