To: pml1@yahoogroups.com Subject: [PML1] CC: Gloria Root From: Mark Tomlonson Date: Wed, 28 May 2003 10:07:09 -0400 In Gloria Root's centerfold (December 1969) she and Snoopy are playing records (that big black CD in the lower left) and welcoming us into her home. As you would expect with a photo credit of "Pompeo Posar", the artistic elements are absolutely first rate. The most astonishing (to me) is the way the wall decorations echo the line formed by Gloria as she lays on the sofa: very, very subtle. The only problem is Snoopy. He's the bright highlight that's needed, but he also shifts the look away from adult to more juvenile, a shift that's not completely positive. But it's not the wall hangings we're looking at here. Gloria has been placed in pose that is extremely flattering. It gives her breasts, in particular, a very nice curve. The "fig leaf" is typical of all men's magazines of the time - going for that last possible 1/4" of exposed skin. Here it's so well done that it's only on reflection that we see it. To be so successful not only with the things that catch the eye at first, but also the things that are in truth mere underpinnings is the mark of a true craftsman. Picking between the two would have been difficult. http://cyber.playboy.com/members/playmates/files/1969/12/centerfold.html http://cyber.playboy.com/members/playmates/files/1969/12/03-lrg.html http://cyber.playboy.com/members/playmates/files/1969/12/01-lrg.html Mark Tomlonson Kalamazoo MI
