To: pml1@yahoogroups.com Subject: [PML1] CC: Phyllis Coleman From: Mark Tomlonson Date: Fri, 29 Aug 2003 10:22:16 -0400 In Phyllis Coleman's centerfold (August 1973) she's lying on the bed, as the two of us consider what to do next. This centerfold is all about color and texture. Where it really hits a home run is in the slate grey coolness of the sheets. It's no stretch of the imagination to think of ourselves sliding into those sheets next to Phyllis. They are so cool and solid they almost look like they are made out of stone. The grey is an excellent contrast to the light tan Phyllis, bringing out the smoothness of her soft skin. There are some compositional items worth noting, mainly the way Phyllis' hair frames her face and provides a major compositional element in the upper left of the picture. The pose, however, is less than stellar, and Phyllis' awkward expression is no help. She's a woman that's difficult to flatter in a photograph. In fact, none of the portfolio shots are truly stunning. The alternate is still along the same lines as the centerfold, but has a more relaxed and comfortable feel to it. I'm not trying to imply that Phyllis is unattractive, but for whatever reason, her Playmate shots never quite click.
