In Lynn Schiller's centerfold (July 1975) she's dressing in front of a 
window on a warm spring day.

This centerfold oozes freshness. The predominance of white, the flowers, 
the demure smile on Lynn's face - it's definitely the Playboy we've come 
to know and love for its combination of virginity and sophistication.

So who the hell was that woman we saw in the PMOM feature?

She's got nothing to do with this model. The woman we saw was lewd, 
tattooed and obviously freshly screwed. Strawberries and cream stood in 
for things that even in the seventies Playboy couldn't or wouldn't show.

Ah! What's this in the mirror, the one in the lower right of the 
centerfold? There's the woman we saw before! Here Lynn's hands have been 
transformed from demure innocence to wanton bawdiness.

This schizoid take on sexuality was to come to a head a few months later 
in a box of popcorn. I remember reading a contemporary account that this 
resulted in an attempted coup at Playboy. The official word is that 
Playboy was exploring a direction it later chose not to pursue. I can 
believe either one. For evidence of this struggle, just look in the mirror.
