As Playboy looked for ways to be more explicit in the seventies, they moved to a dreamy, boudoir look for several of their centerfolds. This is the best of the lot. A little bit of Vaseline can add to a pin-up. The problem with the seventies was the lack of "a little bit" of anything. It's a great pose we are treated to here. A strong line from upper left to lower right is well offset by the slight arch to Lillian's back and her knee bent against the bed. The line of her stomach leads us downwards, upping the erotic appeal of the pose. This is all good competent stuff, but there isn't a lot of imagination shown. That's not necessarily a bad thing. Lillian's smile is worth noting. It strikes me as utterly spontaneous, and its sense of invitation is unmistakable. Her lacy teddy is well placed, adding emphasis where emphasis is deserved without chopping her into odd bits. The monochromatic feel to the centerfold helps in this as well. This brown scheme also makes it easy to imagine we are enjoying an afternoon break.
