In Laura Lyon's centerfold (February 1976) there is really no credible implied situation. It's just a photo of a very attractive, naked young woman. Are there any complaints? I suppose you could say we're somewhere around a bathroom, as that large opaque blob just in front of Laura could be a large cake of soap. So why is Laura wearing those ribbons? It's because it makes her look good. I'll be the first to admit I natter on about "realistic" and "natural" in pin-ups like they are some kind of virtue in themselves. They're not, and this photo proves it. Laura radiates enough sexual energy that other elements or the lack of them doesn't distract us. The pose works well, showing off assets and ignoring faults. The ribbons are a very clever and effective way of introducing color accents, and the background provides a mood without detracting from or competing with Laura. That's pretty much what you ask of a background. Presenting a lovely woman without a lot of extra fuss is what's asked of a pin-up, and that's what this one delivers.
