In Dorothy Stratten's centerfold (August 1979) she's just asked the
mirror if she's the fairest one of all, and now she's looking to us
for a second opinion.

Dorothy is perhaps the fifth best-known Playmate in Playboy history
after Jayne, Anna Nicole, Marilyn and Pam. Among these elite, she is
the only one who was famous for being the sweet girl she was when
Playboy found her. Anna Nicole, Pam and Jayne are famous for being
outrageous and Marilyn . . . well, she's famous for being Marilyn.

The centerfold captures the qualities that make Dorothy a favorite
even twenty years after her death: an absolutely killer body coupled
with an innocent yet not quite naïve expression. The lighting and pose
bring out the best of her body, and Dorothy takes care of the
rest. The rich color values that were in style before "Miami Vice" are
the perfect foil for her hair.

Despite all that, the centerfold never worked for me because of
Dorothy's right arm. It's as if she's protecting herself against a
threat of some kind. It's only after the centerfold came out that we
found out about the real threat in her life. She is missed.
