In Patti Farinelli's centerfold (December 1981) she's been reading 
romance novels again. It looks like we're the lucky beneficiaries.

I look at this centerfold and I want to cry. Not because the centerfold 
is bad (it isn't) but because the opening shots in her PMOM article and 
most of the portfolio are so good. I really had a hard time picking out 
the one to recommend.

I've been accused of not liking the "bawdy wench" look. That's a fair 
assessment. Having said that, I think the centerfold is one of Playboy's 
best Bawdy Wenches. Where it falls down for me is in Patti's expression. 
It comes too close to making her look like she's been pithed.

I don't have as much trouble with the costume or the pose. Blue is not 
an obvious choice for Patti but it sets off her raven hair to great 
advantage. The boost the sash of her robe is giving her breasts is just 
forceful enough to make the point while still subtle enough to avoid any 
but the most distant S&M references. I probably would have left on both 
socks and probably both shoes.

It's not that bad, until you see the alternates.
