In Terry Nihen's centerfold (December 1983) the bells have been ringing 
and she's answered the phone. In the meantime, something seems to have 
set our own bells ringing.

This is arguably Playboy's most explicit centerfold to date. This is due 
to Terry's physiology as much as a conscious editorial decision, but 
nevertheless somebody decided not to go with any kind of fig leaf here. 
There have to have been many, many Playmates built like Terry. They just 
weren't posed like this.

That's a minor point (no pun intended). What really makes this 
centerfold work is the lighting and the implied situation. Again we see 
the "jewel box" effect as Terry is gently wrapped in the bedding. The 
whites and pinks highlight Terry's lovely tan skin. The soft light 
coming through the partly closed venetian blinds ties the whole look 
together in a masterful way.

The implied situation is also worth noting. This encounter with Terry 
isn't taking place just after a night on the town. That's mid-morning 
light coming through the window and it looks like we just may be 
spending the whole day in bed. That's fine. I didn't have anything going 
on today at the office.

Update:

I think there are a couple of other centerfolds that might qualify as 
"most explicit", but there are two statements on this subject that I 
stand by: 1) A lot more Playmates are built like Terry than are posed 
like Terry and 2) it really isn't that big of a deal in the context of 
how all centerfolds focus on more than just a single area.
