In Kalin Olson's centerfold (August 1997) she's leaning up against a 
porch post, with a couple of ideas on how to spend a hot summer night. 
There's no visible sweat or electric fans about, but the heat is 
impossible to miss.

Kalin is greeting us with a no-nonsense stare. She knows what she wants, 
and if we can't give it to her then we're history. That she generates 
that look without seeming bitchy is a credit to her.

The color of the posts is a real asset, not only because of the way 
their color relates to the rest of the centerfold, especially Kalin and 
her clothing, but also their strikingly deep value. That slight arch the 
post in front makes over Kalin is a nice touch.

Kalin's pose is O.K., but not that exciting. Her grooming makes this 
pose more explicit than Playboy's standard, but like the standard the 
explicitness is a natural result of the pose. What's really unusual 
about it is the way it highlights that "maternal bulge" most women have 
just above the pubis. Generally Playboy's centerfolds, especially those 
taken after about 1965, have chosen to downplay this aspect of the 
feminine body.

Update:

Some List members thought I should have made a bigger deal about the 
explicitness of Kalin's pose. If it looked like the pose was selected 
strictly to show off Kalin's genitalia I would have.
