This centerfold harks back to the work of Vargas, Petty and Elvgren, and it does so very well. These earlier pin-ups generally had a background with little detail. Here the sheets and the wallpaper almost match. The line between them, while it is there is very muted. A lot of the Petty girls wore mere slips of lace nighties, and Julie seems more than happy to fulfill that tradition. Vargas loved women with attitude, and again Julia comes through. It seems that while we may propose additional activity, it is quite another thing for Julie to accept thank you very much. And of course the February Valentine theme is a pin-up standby. The airbrushed pin-ups of the mid-twentieth century also showed technical brilliance. I think this falls a bit short of that standard, but it is very, very good. The lighting in particular is outstanding, giving Julia's skin a warm glow amid the cooler sheets. The only slightly down note is the proportions of the photograph. They're good, but no prize. Scoring: Pin-up: 3.5 Erotic: 3.0 Artistic: 3.0 Overall: 3.2 out of 4.0 Cyber Club Portfolio Photo I like better than the Centerfold: # 4 http://cyber.playboy.com/members/playmates/files/1998/02/centerfold.html http://cyber.playboy.com/members/playmates/files/1998/02/04-lrg.html Update: I think my rating here is a victim of grade inflation. It just doesn't seem like a 3.2 centerfold. New ratings, but the commentary is still good. Updated Scoring: Pin-up: 2.5 Erotic: 2.0 Artistic: 2.0 Overall: 2.2 out of 4.0 Mark Tomlonson Kalamazoo MI
