To: pml1@yahoogroups.com Subject: [PML1] CC: Krista Kelly From: Mark Tomlonson Date: Fri, 18 Jun 2004 10:48:59 -0400 In Krista Kelly's centerfold (April 2004) she's at the door of our bedroom, waiting for us to return so that we can enjoy another round. I like how Krista has been posed, and the look on her face. There are a couple of traditional notes here. First is the pipe and ashtray on the floor signifying the male presence. Second is Krista's pose. The roundness of her lower torso gets the highlight here instead of her breasts, much like what was seen in the Northern Renaissance. I thought I'd seen this specific pose before but it's no more than an echo of the nudes of Lucas Cranach the Elder, e.g. "Judgement of Paris". Then we get to the new stuff. The reproduction of skin tones in this centerfold is inexcusable. If Krista's skin is truly this mottled, blotchy, and grainy then she needs to see a dermatologist, and soon. Fifty years ago we could pass off technical flaws as a lack of printing sophistication. Supposedly new photographers can't handle the traditional camera (or focus any of them). If that is truly the case, then drop the foldout instead of running this rank abomination. Krista and we deserve much, much better. Photographers: Stephen Wayda and Arny Freytag Scoring: Pin-up: 2.0 Erotic: 1.0 Artistic: 0.0 Overall: 1.4 out of 4.0 Cyber Club Portfolio Photo I like better than the Centerfold: #18. The whole blue sweater in the office series is very charming. I particularly like how the explicitness is handled in the alternate shot. http://cyber.playboy.com/members/playmates/files/2004/04/centerfold.html http://cyber.playboy.com/members/playmates/files/2004/04/18-lrg.html Lucas Cranach the Elder's "Judgement of Paris": http://www.abcgallery.com/C/cranach/cranach11.html Mark Tomlonson To: pml1@yahoogroups.com Subject: Re: [PML1] CC: Krista Kelly From: Mark Tomlonson Date: Fri, 18 Jun 2004 13:44:59 -0400 Donn McKnight wrote: > As for your scoring, I think she looks amazing and probably would > have given it a few bonus points for that - technical flaws or not. > > Mark Tomlonson wrote: > Overall: 1.4 out of 4.0 In all three categories I scored lower than I would have without the reproduction issues because the quality of presentation of this picture in the magazine diminishes its appeal. Had this been done to the standards of old, I would have scored it about a point higher on "erotic" and "Pin-up" and at least two points higher on "artistic". Mark Tomlonson
